FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions: Details for your VIBRANT wedding ceremony
I see you talk about a FUN wedding, do you tell a lot of jokes?
You’ll notice I never use the word “joke” in describing what I do.
Because I don’t tell jokes at your wedding.
There’s an important difference between humour and “a joke.” I love to laugh, and I think you and your guests want to, as well. But I steer away from “jokes” that can be said of any couple anywhere, anytime. And I find that gender-based or honeymoon jokes, for example, are almost always cringe-inducing at best and offensive at worst.
Any of the humour in your ceremony will be about a funny memory in your own story, from your first impressions of each other, your first date, or your proposal, and it will be something that you told me about. I don’t tell jokes. What I do is find those lighthearted and contrasting occasions in your love story that make us laugh.
Why don't you share the LOVE STORY before the ceremony?
I do this so guests and the photographer can experience your genuine reaction the first time you hear your own, custom-written, personal love story during the ceremony.
I don’t want to fool you, but want to capture the moment when you hear, for the very first time, how your partner knew, “I’m going to marry this person, the love of my life!”, while sharing it with your friends and family. This is worth the wait.
How far will you travel for my wedding?
My fee includes all travel, including the rehearsal if applicable, within 50km from my Blue Mountains, ON location.
I will ask for a $0.60/km for distances beyond this range. This amount will be added to your contract prior to signing so you will know the full fee in advance. There will be no hidden or extra charges.
What if you can't make it to the wedding?
I have a group of trusted, licensed, and experienced colleagues who I know will knock your ceremony out of the park as well as I would. Your ceremony will already be completely written by me, of course, and I would call on one of my colleagues to seamlessly step in and read and perform what we have created together.
What if our venue doesn't allow for a rehearsal? Do I need one?
I recommend and gently insist on a rehearsal if you book me for a full Love Story Ceremony – that’s why it’s included in this service.
If your venue is not available for a rehearsal, don’t worry! We just need a space where we can imagine a “front area” and practice walking down a mock aisle and standing in a line. Rehearsals have been done in city parks, living rooms, condo party rooms, and restaurants.
I want to do everything I can to make sure everyone is as relaxed as possible on your wedding day. A rehearsal, anywhere, goes a long way towards that!
Do you officiate last minute ceremonies?
Of course! If you are planning a last-minute wedding and would like me to officiate it for you, please email me with the details and I’ll do my best to accommodate your request.
Do you provide a contract? How and when do we pay?
After we meet and you decide to book me, I will send you a contract. Once you and your partner have reviewed, signed and returned the contract I will send you an invoice for 50% of the total as a retainer.
I will send another invoice, for the remaining balance, one month (30 days) before your wedding. If it’s a last-minute wedding, the entire balance will be due once I’ve received the signed contract.
Do you register our marriage?
First of all, rest assured I am a licensed wedding officiant with the office of the Registrar of the Province of Ontario.
It is up to you to apply for your Wedding License. I provide legal handling and registration of your marriage with the Registrar’s office after your wedding.
